Shoot First, Eat Later
I generally make it my business to eat delicious and interesting things on a regular basis. This isn’t a terribly difficult thing to do, seeing as Portland has an incredibly rich food culture, and that most definitely is one of the reasons why I love living here. Sometimes, when the mood is right, I’ll even photograph what I eat.
Some people cringe at the thought of eating oatmeal for breakfast. I’m not one of those people, and this is a reason why: oatmeal, topped with diced apple, pecans, flaxmeal, and cinnamon. Homemade, of course.
I’m a big believer in hot cereal. Another that I made for myself, at the height of strawberry season: buckwheat hot cereal with almonds, fresh strawberries, flaxmeal, and milk.
Okay, so I didn’t eat this specific thing, but I did photograph it for the lovely folks at Yakuza Lounge. I later ate a fantastic Valentine’s Day dinner there, that was at least as enjoyable as the sashimi in this shot looks.
I’m also more than a little obsessed with french macarons, and I suspect it’s only a matter of time before I try baking my own. Imagine my delight when I showed up for a jewelry shoot with DeLuxe and Fresh Tangerine, and found out these would be one of our props! Yes, we totally ate them after the shoot was over.
My latest restaurant shoot was for Amalfi’s, up on Fremont. They had not one, but THREE different dishes prepared for me to shoot, and they graciously offered to let me take one of them, so this pizza made the trip home with me after the session.
